The Lion Within Us - Leadership for Christian Men
Christian men are in a battle for their lives. Satan will do everything possible to destroy them. The Lion Within Us is a community that provides encouragement to become the leaders God intends us to be. Our main focus lies within three categories: Health (Mental/Physical), Wealth (Careers/Finances) and Self (Husbands/Fathers/Brothers in Christ). By sharpening these areas of our lives, we can find the strength needed to stand firm in our faith and unleash the Lion Within.
The Lion Within Us - Leadership for Christian Men
592. Stand Firm In Truth - Fun Friday
What happens when Christian men focus intentionally on building strength in their health, finances, and relationships? Life-changing transformation that ripples through every area of leadership. Standing firm in truth serves as our foundation, as Ephesians 6:14 reminds us to belt our waist with truth and put on the breastplate of righteousness. From this solid ground, we explore practical ways to strengthen the three pillars of effective Christian leadership.

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right, fellas, fun Friday time, let's go. Okay, so the scripture of the week this week is the book of Ephesians, the sixth chapter. Just the 14th verse, though. Okay, stand firm. Therefore, having belted your waist with truth and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, love that verse, fellas, go back.
Speaker 1:Listen to the Spiritual Kickoff episode. It's going to be two back in your podcast feed. I take the time to unpack that scripture at length. And again, as a quick reminder, if you're looking for a daily boost of the words to be encouraged, our daily Spiritual Kickoff I don't know what you're waiting on. Go, sign up for that. It's completely free. It gives you access to our community. It gives you access to our prayer board as well, so we can be glad to be praying over the items for you, but just talk about a fun way to engage with God's Word five days a week, monday through Friday, completely free.
Speaker 1:All of it can be found at thelinewithinus, our last episode. If you missed it, first of all, shame on you. What are you doing? I'm just kidding, but seriously go back and listen to it. Ok, because Pastor Joby Martin came on this fourth time, coming on the line within us. Each time he comes it just gets better and better and better. I just like our flow is this. It's pretty epic at this point.
Speaker 1:So I was encouraged by again, if you're listening to this episode when it comes out, we're going to be in Jacksonville, Florida, for their men's conference in October. So go check out mensconferencecom. You'll be able to check out all the resources there. They still have virtual tickets available. The in-person thing is sold out completely, but the virtual option is there and the Lion is going to be there as well. So if you're listening to this and you have a ticket and you want to come, then come hang out, come meet. You have a ticket and you want to come and then come hang out, come meet us outside, where we're going to be hanging out outside in the conference. We'll have tables set up, we'll have lots of free stuff set up and we're just going to be there and encourage you. Ok, so again, pastor Joe will be everything he's doing. Church of 1122, just blessed and beyond blessed, just to be a part of it and just be an encouragement to him and hopefully you'll be encouraged as well.
Speaker 1:All right, so now for a fun Friday. Let's get into it. We always talk about a health, wealth and a self. Tips. If you're new to the line, this is how we, this is how this rolls. The health is mind and bodies. How do we strengthen that? The wealth is around stewardship of our finances and our and our careers. And the self is, ultimately, how do we improve ourselves to be better husbands and fathers. That's it, okay. So for the and for each of those we get, we do it just a little tip, and it could just be small things, it could be bigger things, but it's just try to help encourage you along your path. So, the health tip I found this one online.
Speaker 1:I thought it was super interesting. It's called a 12, a 12, three, 30 workout. Okay, 12, three, 30. All right, 12 degrees incline, three miles an hour and 30 minutes, okay. And and the study that I was seeing again at the time of this recording. I can't do this workout, I promise you, because I got the broken ankle still healing this up and hopefully I'll be able to do this workout at some point soon. But what this does? The study show that this burns more fat as a fuel source, and and it's it was super interesting because that study was saying about 41% of the energy comes from fat, compared to 33% during running. So running really burns a lot of more carbs, you know. But this, this type of workout, due to the low intensity, actually focused more, more on the fats. I just thought that was interesting, Super curious, if any of you guys have tried something like this again, it's putting a treadmill on a 12 degree incline. That's a steep, steep incline. Okay, so it's not, but it's not slow. Three miles an hour and you're doing it for about a half hour. Okay, 30 minutes. So there's your. There's your tip 12, 3, 30. If you tried this workout and I'd love to hear from you so you can always shoot us an email at support at thelinewithinus I'd love to know your feedback on what this workout's like. Did you get a lot from it? One thing you could consider to amplify it put a rucksack on. You know what I'm saying. Just throw that ruck on, put some weight in the back and I guarantee that's going to make the intensity go up even more. Okay, all right. Now, second tip is your wealth tip, and I was thinking about this one and I came up with this little formula Commas equals conversation plus clock, ok, so I want to kind of frame this up for you.
Speaker 1:So, good stewardship means that when we're faced with significant purchases OK, something that has a comma in it, ok, we're talking anything over a thousand dollars here we should first slow down, slow down so that clock's a big deal. And then also, we need to make sure we're in alignment with our spouse, okay, and and this, this comes to intentional conversations and taking the time. And if we do that, uh, we, what we're, what we're preventing is an emotional reaction. Okay, we don't want to emotionally spend money, particularly if we've got commas in it, because, even if most likely, that's going to be a bad decision. And, more importantly, we need to make sure we're in sync with our spouse. So I'm just telling you, if you've got a large purchase coming up, take the time, slow down and have the conversation with her Super important. Alright, now self-tip time.
Speaker 1:Don't let others speak ill to your wife, okay, especially her. Now the reason I brought this up Recently my wife. She made a negative comment about herself and when she finished I told her the part of my job of her husband is to ensure the things that are spoken about her are uplifting or giving life. And the things that she just said about herself didn't fit that criteria. And I was joking with her in a way, but I told her. I said I can't allow you to talk to yourself that way because that was a lie from the pits of hell and I'm not going to tolerate that stuff because you are more valuable than that and that little bitty reframe meant a lot to her and maybe it's helpful to you. But sometimes the ones that we love the most need to be protected from themselves, and she does this for me a lot. Guys, I learned this from her. But take the time.
Speaker 1:If your spouse is speaking ill of herself, don't let that continue. We got to speak life to them. We have to constantly just be pouring into them, and then we got to redirect and reframe that negativity, because that's just going to eat away, it's going to erode, and we can't allow that. We have been called to act like men and that's a step we can take. All right. So your three tips, fellas, your health, wealth and yourself. That helps that. 12, 3, 30 workout Again 12 degrees, three minutes, sorry, three miles an hour, 30 minutes. Ok. Wealth tip is your commas equals conversations plus the clock, c equals C squared how about that? And your self tip is don't let others speak ill of your wife, especially herself.
Speaker 1:Okay, now to book of the week this week. No surprise here. Stand firm and act like men. Pastor Joby Don talked about this one at length. This book is now live. Now I got the, the, the, the editing version, right now, because this is just so the back's going to be different than what you guys get. Go to Amazon, though, go check it out. Or joeymartincom. Get a copy of this, get several copies, get a copy for your men's groups. You're not going to be disappointed. It's not a long book, but it's got a lot of great insights and reflections that I guarantee are going to draw you closer to Christ. So go get a copy of that today.
Speaker 1:All right, so dad joke time. Let's get right into the dad jokes this week. First dad joke is what's the difference between a well-dressed man on a unicycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle? Hmm, well, it's a tire. That's a pretty good one, fellas. What's the difference between a well-dressed man on a unicycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle, that would be a tire. Now, number two I can't take my dog to the pond anymore because the ducks just keep attacking him. I guess that's what I get for buying a purebred dog. So let us know which one you like, number one or number two? The difference between a well-dressed man on a unicycle and a poor-dressed man on a bicycle, that's an attire. And number two I can't take my dog to the pond anymore because the ducks keep attacking him. That's what I get for buying a purebred dog.
Speaker 1:So, fellas again, dad jokes are not supposed to make you laugh out loud every time. They're supposed to get a little sigh, a little eye roll. That's when you know they're working the best. Okay, if you have a dad joke that we haven't used that you want us to use on the show one week, send it in Support at thelinewithinus that's the email address you can send it in to Love to use your dad jokes and we use it. We'll give you a shout out on the show and even hook you up with some free stuff. How about that? Okay?
Speaker 1:So the question of the week this week is are you anchored in God's truth or your own truth? Got to be super careful here, fellas, that we're not just kind of leaning on our own understanding, but we're leaning on God first and foremost, in, in, in, all, through everything that we had that comes in our way. So, hopefully, guys, that question this week, hopefully making you just have a little bit of a redirect, if it needs to be there. Okay, all right, fellas, thanks for listening, thanks for watching, thanks for just being an encouragement to the Lion Within us. Again, thelionwithinus is where you find all our resources. Check out our daily spiritual kickoffs, check out our community. Start your 30-day free trial there.
Speaker 1:If you want to know more about the Leadership Mastermind, reach out to us. We'd love to talk to you about how that works and how we serve guys. I'm telling you it's making a big impact in these guys' lives. So I'd love, love, love to share that with you and hopefully be an encouragement to you as well. All right, so, other than that, hopefully, come back next week Prayerfully, good Lord with them and the Creek Don't Arise. We'll have some more episodes for you. We're just going to hopefully be an. It comes live. We'll be in Jacksonville, florida, for that men's conference. Go, come, check us out, come say hi. We'd love to meet, love to connect while we're there at the conference. All right. So, guys, have a great day, get after it, stay strong, stand firm and act like men, and you know what's coming? Keep unleashing the lion within. I've got something big to share.
Speaker 1:We're making a major shift because we know the battle is real and it's time more men had access to the support they need.
Speaker 1:For too long, guys have been trying to carry the weight alone pressure at work, tension at home, wounds from the past and a world that demands strength but offers no place to rest. We see it, we've lived it, and that's exactly why we built our community. It's a stronghold, a place where warriors can find rest, truth and a band of brothers standing beside them. And starting now, we're making it easier than ever to step in. We've lowered the barrier to just $15.99 a month. That means, for less than the cost of a drive-thru lunch, you can join a brotherhood that's centered on Christ and built for growth. Inside you'll find access to our daily spiritual kickoffs every Monday through Friday, our Lion Lunches, our Bible Studies, our Friday Forge Gatherings all that and so much more. Every man needs a stronghold, and you don't have to fight alone If you've been waiting for the right time to jump in. This is it.
