The Lion Within Us - Leadership for Christian Men

541. Finding God In Life's Little Moments - Fun Friday

Chris Grainger

What's burning in your heart that you've been afraid to voice? This question strikes at the core of authentic Christian manhood, where strength isn't measured by emotional suppression but by courageous vulnerability. Drawing from our conversation with Dr. Greg Stewart about his book we explore how properly understanding our emotions actually strengthens rather than weakens us.

Chris Grainger:

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right. Fellas fun Friday, let's go All right.

Chris Grainger:

So scripture of the week this week it's been Jeremiah 20, verse nine. It says but if I say I will not mention his word or speak any more in his name, his word is in my heart like a fire. A fire showed up in my bones. I'm weary of holding on to it, indeed, I cannot. So, guys, wonderful, beautiful scripture. Go back, listen to the spiritual kickoff episode where we try to unpack that at length to give you insight, so how you can simplify and apply that one verse to your life. And again, we do it every day, monday through Friday, within our Lion Within Us community. If you're looking for a little bit more of encouragement throughout your week, we have it for you. This is exclusive content for our Lion Within Us members. Head over to thelionwithinus to get started today. All right, I had a really good conversation with Dr Greg Stewart, unpacking the IQ, unlock the inner strength behind your negative emotions. Smart guy, love this conversation with him. Love the practical insights as well. It wasn't just talking behind the sky stuff. He really got down the brass tacks in some areas that we could take and apply to our life. So if you didn't get that conversation, you haven't listened to it yet. Pop back in your podcast feed one back and enjoy that one with Dr Greg. Okay, now for our fun Friday.

Chris Grainger:

Very simple structure for our fun Friday episodes, guys. They're usually shorter, we get right to the point and we try to give you some, some encouragement along the way. All right, so what we start off with is a is our three tips a health, wealth and our self tips. Now for the lion within us. We're built on these, these primary pillars. The health would be your mind and your body. How do you strengthen that? Okay. Wealth is how do we be a better steward of our finances and our careers? Okay. And self, ultimately, what do we need to be doing to improve our position as husbands and fathers? That's three big colleagues. That's two big colleagues, rather, three big areas in our life.

Chris Grainger:

So for the health tip for this week, think about this when it comes to food Eating for energy, not for emotion, okay, and I'm an emotional eater. So this is where I brought this one up, because I get convicted by this one. But before meal, if you ask yourself, am I feeding my body or my feelings, that may tell you really what you need to know. Okay, because that's going to help you reframe the food choices that you eat. And I get it. Man, there's nothing, like you know, when you're maybe under a lot of stress, maybe some anxiety, and you just turn to a bag of chips or to the ice cream or to the candies or whatever it may be. Whatever that thing is for you. I just encourage you, think about. Is this an emotional decision I'm making right now? Now, the emotions aren't bad. I'm not saying emotions are bad. They usually are just terrible decision makers.

Chris Grainger:

Health, because a couple of bad decisions in the kitchen or in the pantry can really set us back from our physical goals and the things we're trying to do for maintaining and building strong health. Okay, now I'm not coming at you saying I got all this stuff figured out because peanut M&Ms that is my uh, my, my sore spot, right, that's just there. But if we really are intentional about the, the, the, the reason behind the eating, that may help. Okay, all right, now that's your health tip. Now for the wealth tip, think about a practice called a Sunday night map. Okay, so on Sunday evenings, spend 10, 15 minutes and answer the question what must happen this week to move my career forward? And then start really thinking about OK, how is that aligning and manifesting on the calendar? Do it before the week starts, because once the week starts, you're in it, you're in it, you're in meetings, you have all these things going. So it's really just taking that time to be purposeful and intentional. Meetings you have all these things going, so it's really just taking that time to be purposeful and intentional about. Okay, if this is important, if God is calling me to do this in my career, how is this aligning? How does this manifest? What's the evidence of that in my calendar? Because we know, guys, you live and die by your calendar. You just do. Your calendar dictates everything that you do, everything that you got going on throughout the week. So how can I be super intentional and purposeful here about aligning the things that are important that God's calling me to do to that? All right Now for your wealth tip, I'm sorry for your self tip.

Chris Grainger:

Think about this. Apologize fast and forgive faster. Okay, we have to be diligent in both these areas, so don't go to bed holding on to offenses, right, don't, don't do that. But that quick forgiveness, right, man, that should be so big, because your kids, if you're quick to forgive your kids are going to see that. Dr Greg talked about a mirror. They're going to see that and they're going to want to mirror your grace or they're going to mirror your grudges. This is why, like for guys, we have to be in tune and aware of this at all times. And the unfortunate part is there's no time off. And the fortunate part is you got a ton of influence. You know, you, you do have so much influence. You guys have more influence than they they ever recognized. And what we're trying to do with the line within us is just encourage you and just to let you see that more and more and more.

Chris Grainger:

Okay, start by apologizing fast. Guys. You need to be the chief, chief apologizer in your home. You know, learn to say the two words I'm sorry and don't do it. I'm sorry with a caveat. No, let's not do it that way. But then when somebody apologizes in your family, forgive, forgive them right. Model that for your kids. And I'm telling you, if you want to build these types of things to your kids. They got to see it from you. I wish, trust me, I wish I could just like teach it to them or like here, read this book, or go do this thing. But no, what they're going to see is okay. If dad says this is important, what is dad doing? How is he modeling it? And that's the super convicting part. That's the hard part that we have to wrestle with, but that's the part that's going to move the needle the most. Okay, all right, fellas. So there's your three tips your health, wealth and yourself. That health again eat for energy, not for emotion. That wealth is the use that Sunday night map to really get super intentional on your calendar. And the self tip apologize fast. Tip apologize fast, forgive faster.

Chris Grainger:

So for the book of the week, guys holding it up right here IQ, information, interpretation, intensity, unlock the inner strength behind your negative emotions. By Dr Greg Stewart. Love this conversation with Greg. So if you think this would add value to your library, please head over to the lionwithinus book, by the way. You head over to the lionwithinus book, by the way, you could go to the lionwithinus book anytime. That's our book of the week and all the books for all the hundreds of episodes that we have out there each and every week. If you want to look for ways to really purposefully and intentionally add some really good resources to your home library, go check out those resources. It's all free. At least all the suggestions are free. Then you make your buying decisions from there. How about that? All right, so now dad joke time.

Chris Grainger:

Let's get into our dad jokes for this week. First one I opened a bakery that only sells bagels and donuts. Okay, okay, it's called Whole Foods. That's it, fellas. What do you think about that? I opened a bakery that only sells bagels and donuts. It's called Whole Foods. Get it H-O-L-E.

Chris Grainger:

Now, number two I tried to come up with a carpentry joke, but nothing would work. So, fellas, I know they're both terrible this week, that's okay. But if it got a little smile out of you, that's the main thing. If, okay, but if it got a little smile out of you, that's the main thing. If you tell these to your spouse or to your kids and they roll their eyes and sigh, then we have accomplished our mission, all right. So again, number one I opened a bakery that only sells bagels and donuts. It's called Whole Foods. Number two I tried to come up with a carpentry joke, but nothing would work. All right, fellas. So again, if you have a dad joke you think that we should use that we haven't used on the Lion Within us before. Support at thelionwithinus, send us an email. If we use your jokes on the show, we'll give you a big shout out as well. Let's hook you up with some free resources for helping us out. How about that? All right.

Chris Grainger:

So for the question of the week, guys, has really been what's burning in your heart that you've been too afraid to say. And kind of going back to that whole mirror thing that Dr Gray was talking about, you probably know what the things are, but it's almost like, if you say it, what do you do with it next? And my encouragement to you is this If you just say it, you take a massive step of taking power away from the evil one. And it's super scary, it's hard, it can be, you know, just audacious to even think about trying that. But I just want to encourage you and I also want to tell you you're not the only guy who's ever felt the way you feel Now. That feeling may be new to you and you may think for you and your situation. No one else is going to get it. But I'm telling you that's wrong, but you wouldn't want you to think that way.

Chris Grainger:

Fellas, these emotions are here. We have to deal with them. We have to pull them out, expose them. Many times, if we just talk about what's burning in our heart and we're getting too afraid to say it, we just talk about it, particularly if it's a sin area. It's in that step that we take power away from the evil one, so we remove power from him and we put that when we put things into the light. Does that make sense? So anyway, fellas, thank you guys. So much for listening, for hanging out. You know the Lion Within. It's just been a long journey.

Chris Grainger:

I would encourage you to head over to the new website, thelionwithinus. Lots of resources out there, guys. Lots of ways we're trying to help guys, the mastermind groups. By far it is the most powerful way that we've learned, that we've deployed by helping others. You may not think you need a peer board of advisors, but I promise you that's a lie. You got to have it. You got to have a band of brothers that are willing to walk through difficult things in life with you and, quite frankly, that's missed in many faith organizations and we're not going to fly by it. Discipleship is too doggone important. It is way too important. So the lionwithinus, just go check and see what the resources are all about. How about that? We have our Bible study plans on the Bible app Hundreds of thousands of downloads there, just blessed beyond measure. There we have our Christian leader assessor. We have our weekly roar.

Chris Grainger:

Guys, we're putting in a lot of effort to walk alongside, to encourage you, to equip you. Head over to the lionwithinus to check it out, all right. Well, guys, have a great day, get after, have a wonderful weekend. Prayerfully, we'll see you next week and remember just to keep unleashing the lion within. I've got something big to share.

Chris Grainger:

We're making a major shift because we know the battle is real and it's time more men had access to the support they need.

Chris Grainger:

For too long, guys have been trying to carry the weight alone pressure at work, tension at home, wounds from the past, in a world that demands strength but offers no place to rest. We see it, we've lived it, and that's exactly why we built our community. It's a stronghold, a place where warriors can find rest, truth and a band of brothers standing beside them. And starting now we're making it easier than ever to step in. We've lowered the barrier to just $15.99 a month. That means for less than the cost of a drive-thru lunch, you can join a brotherhood that's centered on Christ and built for growth. Inside you'll find access to our daily spiritual kickoffs every Monday through Friday, our Lion Lunches, our Bible Studies, our Friday Forge Gatherings all that and so much more. Every man needs a stronghold, and you don't have to fight alone. If you've been waiting for the right time to jump in, this is it. Go to thelionwithinus and join the community and see for yourself what happens when iron truly sharpens iron.
