Chris Grainger:

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right, fellas, it is a fun Friday episode for you. Let's get right into it. You made it through another week, hallelujah, right. So let's look at our scripture of the week. We kind of talked about this on our spiritual kickoff episode as well as our Wednesday meet episode, but it's the Romans 1.20. Kickoff episode as well as our Wednesday meet episode, but it's the Romans 120. It says this Now we took some time on the spiritual kickoff episode to unpack that at length to give you some ways so you can simplify and apply that to your life.

Chris Grainger:

Love for you to go back and listen to that one for sure. You know, as we start thinking about this whole week, the whole science dilemma conversation we had that with Alan directly and I know that can be a stumbling block for lots of people wrestling through what science says versus a faith walk. Right, it doesn't have to be a dilemma, it doesn't have to be. There is overwhelming evidence to the validity of Christ being the Messiah and science can try to refute it, but at the end of the day, it's always funny to me when the science catches up with creation and what God has in His divine plan and you see it happening over and over and over. And Alan and them, they've done a great job of unpacking some salient truths, some scientific facts, and coupling that with God's Word and the ultimate truth. So I just really enjoyed that conversation with Alan. Just a fun guy to be know, to be able to you meet so many people. When you podcast, you never know the different types of personalities, who's really in it, just for their agenda. Alan, before we recorded, I thought it was just very telling of his nature. His number one question to me was Chris, what can I do to serve the people that listen to your show the most? I know we're going to talk about the science and the stuff that we've built, but what can I do to draw your listeners, the ones who find value and align within us, to help them? How can I serve them? It was at that moment it's like, yep, this is going to be a good conversation. It was because he had that servant mindset right. It's just so important for us to remember as men as we go through our day. We can be so fixated on pushing our own agenda. Alan, he was directly. You know what, how can I serve? So that was just a good, joyful moment for me to have that from him as a guest and hopefully that came through when you listened to that interview. All right, so let's get into our fun.

Chris Grainger:

Friday for the Lion Within Us, we always do a health, wealth and a self tip, okay. So if you're a new listener to the show, first of all welcome. Thank you so much for listening. The health tip is really focused on being stronger minds and bodies. What can we do to strengthen our minds and bodies to honor and glorify God? Not that we want to look better in a mirror, no but we need to do what we can so that when he calls us to do hard things, we're prepared, okay. The wealth tip is around being stewards of our finances and, alternately, how do we steward our careers? If you think about stewarding your career, that's a whole mindset shift right. And then self. It's not like how do you for you to get better as a person like that's, that's that's whole. You know the wrong motive. Self, really from the line, within a standpoint husband, father For you guys who are married. How can we be better husbands For you guys that are fathers? How can we, you know, level up our fatherhood to be the fathers that God's called us to be? All right. So let's think about a couple of tips here. From a health standpoint, there's so much value in learning from others and podcasts. It's just been a. It's a great way to grow.

Chris Grainger:

I listen to tons of podcasts every day. I have podcasts I listen to, either from political podcasts or theological podcasts, and get faith driven podcasts, whatever they may be. But you're constricted by this one variable when it comes down to podcasts Time. There's only so much time in a day, so how do you, how do you get more? You know, how do you maximize that time? It's on your podcast feeder right now. You can even do this with a line within us speed it up, go from one to one and a half or two times, and I've I've heard there's even players out there. Now I haven't looked at at my player recently to see if it has it yet. They recently to see if it has it yet They've actually gone up three times speed.

Chris Grainger:

I can't listen fast enough. I don't think to do a three-time speed, but that could be a limiting belief. I'm going to have to try it. But I find one and a half is a really good spot, really good spot for lots of podcasts out there where you don't feel rushed listening to it Two times. If you listen to someone at two times, if they're a nationally fast speaker, it can be difficult to keep that up. I mean, at that point it really moves really quickly. But that one and a half no matter if they're a little bit slower or average or even above average that one and a half is a nice sweet spot that I found to be just a great place to consume more Time. Is that limiting factor? So what can you do? And I just want to. If you've never tried it before, maybe try it. You can just hit the little playback speed button and then play around with it and see what sits best with you. Sometimes you may even have to slow stuff down, like if you have a super fast speaker or if it's a deep topic and you need a little bit more time. You could go the other way. But if you're trying to increase more, to get more into your mind, to guard your mind right, think about that one and a half speed. All right. So that's a health tip, more of a mind one this week. Wealth tip All right.

Chris Grainger:

Alan talked about some pretty cool projects, right, some things you can do as a father to make those investments in your children. I want to remind you, from a stewardship standpoint, to put that into the budget. It can be fun to get excited on stuff. You hear stuff. Next thing you go buy this, buy this, buy this, and you look at the end of the month and you spend a couple hundred dollars that you hadn't planned on spending on, you know, a science project. I'm not saying I don't want you to spend a couple hundred dollars on a science project, no. But if you have a tight budget, did you need to plan for it? Like, don't let this, you know, surprise you. You don't want those expenses. They accumulate, but if you're planning for it, that's okay, that's a planned expense and that's good stewardship. So again, even things Alan talked about. He has a paywall on some of the things he has for the science dilemma. I want you to support him, I want you to budget for it, even though they're not super expensive items. The things that the ancillary pieces that come with that so far as doing your project may be some expenses you need to know about. So just plan ahead, budget forward.

Chris Grainger:

Now for the self-tip. Here's something to consider Actually walk out some of these science projects and these experiments with your kids. Do it with them. I'm going to tell you right now, your kids want more than anything. They just want to spend time with you, right, and this could be a fun way to do it. Maybe it's blowing up something, or maybe it's creating slime, whatever it may be. Find some ways to have some fun, exciting science projects with your kids.

Chris Grainger:

I just remember I have such great memories of my two oldest and she had a chemical kit and we just had some fun memories of, you know, mixing the chemicals together that caused a little mini types of explosions where stuff is next thing. You know, stuff's all over the kitchen table, right, but you know what? Those are fun moments to look back on, smile and reflect, and they bring back good memories for my daughters as well, and it's just for you as a dad. When you do those types of experiments and you do those types, you're learning, which is cool. It's definitely cool to learn, but lots of those you just do at home, right. So you've turned your your home. You've transformed it from you know, this is just where we eat dinner to now this is our, our, our science lab, right.

Chris Grainger:

You start, and you start mixing in some little fun language like that Like, hey, we're in our science lab, go, put on your science, your science coat, right, and let them put on a pretend little science flock. And I said there's so many things you could do there to have so much fun with that. Don't miss it. Don't miss it. And the fact that you just actually took the time to do it and you're going to, you're going to make such a big impact on your kids, it, man, you're going to, you're going to make such a big impact on your kids, and maybe it could be one of those memories that, uh, you look back on and, just like with me, you can just smile, reflect and, uh, just have a good time. So I just want to encourage you, because when we have guests like Alan who comes on, it reminds me that you know we're not called to be boring. You know we're called to do some fun things, to be creative.

Chris Grainger:

So these science experiments are out there and look, you don't have to go back and figure all this stuff out on your own. I'm actually going to share a book with you here in the book of the week that's going to help encourage you to do that. All right, so that's it. That's your three tips your health, wealth and self. That health is consume more at that. One and a half or two, how that sits, and then play with it. See how that goes. Wealth tip build some of the science project expenses into your budget. We don't want to get too far ahead. Don't put the cart before the horse and then self tip walk these experiments out with your kids. Have some fun with it. Smile, go out there and have some fun doing these experiments together.

Chris Grainger:

The book of the week I don't have a copy of it right here, but I found it online. I thought it was super interesting. It's a big Bible science book. So if you search big Bible science, if you go to thelinewithinus and you look at our Book of the Weeks, we'll have a link there for you. But it had a bunch of different science experiments that you could do that are biblically based with your kids. So if this week has seemed like an interesting topic, I want you to, first and foremost, go check out the Science Dilemma all the stuff that Alan's got going on, but this could be a good piece to come alongside with things like that. The way that this book worked, the big Bible science book. It gives you obviously the scriptures, the connections, the Bible stories, but then it gives you the, the science experiments, the things that you need to do the experiments, you know, things to get prepared, so you have a successful experiment. All that stuff. It's just a way to bring those worlds together. So go check that stuff out, all right? All right, so here we go.

Chris Grainger:

We got our dad joke time. We've reached that point of our show. We're going to share with you a couple of dad jokes Now. These are from one of our members named Doug. We love Doug. Doug's always bringing dad jokes up in any meeting from our Bible studies that we have to our couples night. If Doug is there, it's going to be a good time. So, doug, thank you so much for everything that you do, the support that you give us. So here are two jokes that he submitted.

Chris Grainger:

Most people don't know that you are born with four kidneys. As you grow up, two become adult knees. You get that you got four kidneys, but as you grow up they become two adult knees. So there you go. That's the first one. Number two what's the name of a man who just got finished digging? Doug, right. So what's the name of the man who finished digging? His name is Doug. What most people don't know is that you're born with four kidneys, but as you grow, two become adult knees. So again, let us know which one you like best. If you get an eye roll, if you get a sigh, if you get just a, she turns around and walks away. Then the dad joke did its job. So, doug, thank you so much, brother. It's just such a. Anytime he sends me dad jokes, they pick up my day, they bring a smile to my face. He's the type of guy who's just always in just that uplifting spirit he has. He's a Barnabas for sure. He's such an encourager. So, guys, if you like the dad jokes, or if you have other dad jokes that you think we should consider, join the community or send us an email, support at the LionelTenus. Let me know what your dad jokes are. We'll give you a shout out on the show. So thank you again, doug.

Chris Grainger:

So the question of the week. We talked about it all week. Where is God calling you to trust versus understanding. I know this is a very conflict, you know an area of conflict for lots of guys, because we want to understand. Like I don't want to just walk blindly. Are you kidding me, chris? I'm walking blindly, I may trip up and I totally get it. I totally get it, but at some point you got to take a step of faith, and that's what being a Christian is all about. That's what following Christ is all about. It's not always going to show you everything from A to Z, what he expects. He does expect you to take that step of faith, and that means you know what. There could be some things that we just don't understand, and that's okay.

Chris Grainger:

All right, guys, hopefully you enjoyed this stuff. Send us a rating or review for sure. Send it out to others. That's a great way you can help support the show, to help it grow. Go to thelinewithinus. That's the primary thing I'd love for you to do is check out our weekly roar.

Chris Grainger:

We do those every week. There's just a weekly encouragement delivered directly to your inbox. Sign up for that. It's a free way to connect with us. Lots of just practical insights and reflections. I actually got a text this morning on today's weekly while recording this on a Monday, and the guy sent me a text on how encouraging it was for him, how he's going to be sharing it with some of his kids at his church on Wednesday night, because we're just talking about the power of influence. Chris Grainger:

I don't know about you, but I used to find Mondays really rough.

Chris Grainger:

I would find myself trying to reset for work, trying to get my bearing on the family calendar, trying to find time for my own spiritual growth and development, and often I found myself overwhelmed or just flatly ignoring aspects of my life that I know are meaningful to me.

Chris Grainger:

What I learned was that if I had immediate access to important and impactful spiritual topics and reflections to start my week well, after the allure of a Sunday sermon has passed, I would set my whole week up to be more meaningful and for the opportunity to make a true impact. If you think that getting such a boost would help your week to get started on the right foot, we would love for you to sign up for the Weekly Roar, which is our newsletter that is produced by the Lion Within Us.
