Chris Grainger:

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right, fellas, fun Friday time. I'm excited to be here. Let's go.

Chris Grainger:

Scripture of the Week this week is the book of Philippians, chapter 2, verses 3 and 4. Do nothing from selfless ambition or conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves. Conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Fellas, the whole idea of serving others, that's what's been about all week this week. I spent time on Monday unpacking these two verses at length for our Spiritual Kickoff episode. So go back in your podcast feed two episodes ago and if you're looking for some encouragement there, that's where that's. At the last episode, we spent time talking about our most recent mission trip we did to Hurricane Helene relief there in Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee. Really just, I just went through that mainly because I just want you guys to know some of the testimonies and the stories that we had just from the fact that we were there willing to serve and willing to help out in any way possible. I know it's probably a small way but, guys, for the people that we were able to help directly, it was massive. So, again, go check out that podcast out there. So for our listeners who are maybe new to Del line, within us we know we're picking up a lot of new listeners Each week.

Chris Grainger:

We do a health, wealth and a self-tip. Okay, that's kind of like the three pillars of the line within us. The health is mind and body, like how do we strengthen our minds as well as our bodies? You can't just have strong arms, you got to have a strong mind as well. Wealth tip, rather, is how do we steward our finances and our careers better? That's a big deal. And then self-tip is not how do we improve selfishly, but no, how can we improve as husbands and fathers? That's really it. What do we need to do there? So let's jump right into them, okay. So our first tip is a health tip is a health S's to avoid. Okay, and I got this tip from a Bible study group that I did and they came up with like five S's to avoid Salt, sugar, seconds, eating after seven and sitting, and you guys you hear me talk about some of these all the time.

Chris Grainger:

But salt and sugar, that's a no-brainer. You just need to know those are things you need to have a certain limit on in your diet period. Seconds probably not necessary. I know Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is super necessary there because you can't fit it all in one plate. Let's just be real. But on a general rule of thumb, that's totally a joke, guys. General rule of thumb, though. Seconds no. If you have right portion control, the seconds are usually not necessary. Give yourself some time for that food to digest. You'll likely find that you're not as hungry as you thought you were. Okay, eating after seven, that's just a good rule of thumb to give your digestive system time to process the food that's there and not putting excess calories on before you go to bed, because usually that ends up being a stored fat.

Chris Grainger:

And then sitting you guys heard me talk about this in the past. Sitting is to do smoking. Be careful with that. Okay, I'm not saying that you shouldn't sit. Sitting is to do smoking. Be careful with that. Okay, I'm not saying that you shouldn't sit. I sit as part of my job. Also, make sure it's part of my career, though. I'm having to get up and get active every day on a regular basis because I do so much sitting and I recognize that that is a potential area that could really be a downfall for me if I just remain that way. So be careful.

Chris Grainger:

So those five S's salt, sugar, seconds, eating after seven and sitting, all right, wealth tip fellas, lead by serving at work. Okay, I'm going to tell you, the influence that you're looking for is not through a title. I don't care if you're a CFO, a CEO or a janitor, it doesn't matter. It's earned through service when you start serving others. Particularly if you're feeling stuck, like your service when you start serving others, take it. If you're feeling stuck, your career's just not really going anywhere right now. Find ways to serve. Find ways to serve I'm telling you it's going to change everything and do it without any expectations of anything in return. So you can do this by mentoring someone who's younger than you. Just you know what I'm going to be intentional about helping this person be successful. Or you can do that task you know that one that's on the assignment board that nobody wants to do. You just put your name on it, claim it and go do it. Lean into the hard stuff or show up early to support the team. Let them know that you can be count on, because when we stop striving for personal recognition and start seeking, start serving serving rather from a place of humility doors are going to start opening. I'm just telling you that's the way it's going to be, because that's the type of people people want to be around. Okay, and God brings a ton of honor to men who bring his principles first, no matter where they're at Not just sitting at a pew on Sunday, but your cubicle on Tuesday. The blessing that he has in plan usually follows steps of obedience. All right, that's it. Lead by serving at work, self-tip. Serve first at home, at home. If you want to lead your family. Well, guys, you got to start serving them intentionally, because it's easy to serve others outside the home and then come home and you're just completely running on empty. I did this for the longest time, but please hear me here your wife and kids are your first mission field. They are, they are counting on you to be the spiritual leader of the home. So what you may have to do is do something unexpected. Start simple Maybe wash some dishes, I don't know. Plan a date night. Plan a dad date with your kids. Don't wait for the perfect time to do this stuff, because that's the perfect time. It's never going to exist. There's always going to be inconveniences. That's part of it. Say yes, these little small acts of service at home. What do they do? They build trust, they build love and you're building some memories. They're going to look back on it and they're going to say, man, dad really showed up there, because if you want some servant-hearted kids and I know I do well, they need to see it from you first. They just do See. I'm not trying to be hard on you, but I am trying to be direct. Serve first at home. That's your health. Wealth. Self tip so that S is to avoid Salt, sugar, seconds, eating after seven and sitting. Wealth tip lead by serving at work. Self tip serve first at home. Alright guys.

Chris Grainger:

Book of the week I got them holding it up right here A Million Little Miracles by our buddy Mark Madison. It says, rediscovered to God, who is bigger than big, closer to close and gooder than good Mark talks about. God is bigger than what we think we can rest in his wisdom and strength. God is closer than we realize. We can never have to do life alone. And God is better than we imagine we can reclaim our childlike wonder alone and God is better than we imagine. We can reclaim our childlike wonder Fellas, love anything Mark puts out. His publisher sent this to me just a little bit ago, so I've had a chance to really go through this yet directly. I know it's going to be great. Anything from Mark is always awesome. So go check this out and if you're looking for a book, just some things to add to your library, go to thelinewithinitus book and you'll see all our books of the week lined up there very neatly for you. So maybe you can add some of those resources to your library. I guarantee you some of those just can be wonderful resources that you'll be able to pull back and pull out and be encouraged by.

Chris Grainger:

So for our dad jokes this week we always do dad jokes on our Fun Friday episodes. First dad joke is I don't trust the stairs, they're always up to something. That's it, fellas. That's number one. Number two have you ever tried to catch a fog? I tried yesterday, but I missed. All right, fellas, let me know Number one and number two. I don't trust stairs, they're always up to something. Number two have you ever tried to catch a fog? I tried yesterday but I missed Again. Eye rolls completely acceptable. It's kind of like the gold really. If you want to think about it. Size, totally good. If your wife turns around and walks off, that's okay. Just give her some time. Maybe it's a heart issue, I don't know. But anyway, fellas, we like to share these dad jokes and if you have some dad jokes that you always go to and you think that we would like send me an email, please Support at thelinewithinus. I'd love to hear your dad jokes. We'll give you a shout out on the show as well as just hook you up with some free resources along the way. That would just hopefully encourage you on your walk with Christ. All right.

Chris Grainger:

So the question this week I've been asking it all week. It's time to really start, but this is something that you'll want to just keep delaying Again. If you're looking for that perfect time to do a trip, it's never going to happen. You'll find perfect times to go on vacation. I'm just going to be honest this morning.

Chris Grainger:

But if you're looking for that perfect time to do a mission trip, it's not going to happen. He's going to do all he can to trip you up, to make you say no. He's going to do all he can to keep you from going on that trip. There's going to be last little minute things that pop up that's going to try to discourage you. Keep fighting, keep fighting, because a blessing comes after the obedience it just does. Blessings come after obedience. You have to do the hard things. That's what we're called to do. We're not called to easy, we're called to hard. Hey, you know, look for those opportunities and then start saying yes, start saying yes. So thank you so much for listening. Just again, from the bottom of my heart, from our Mission Trip team, I want to thank them again for everything that they did. Thank you, guys, for, first of all, listening to the line with us.

Chris Grainger:

There are so many other podcasts out there. The fact that you take the time to listen to this podcast means the absolute world to me. I really can't say enough about that. I would highly encourage you to head over to thelinewithinus, check our site out, just peek it over. There may be some free resources there that you like. There may be some resources there that you would find a ton of value with, as with us, as like our community, our mastermind groups and fellas. If you have any questions on that stuff. I'd like to see it more. Let me know, I'll be glad to hop on a call with you and just show it to you. There's there, there's. There's no, no pressure or anything. That's not how I roll. I really try to to go about doing this fellas each and every week with you guys and trying to create these resources to help you in your wall, to help you continue to grow. So again, the lion with an dot us to help you continue to grow. So again, thelionwithinus is where you'll find all those resources.

Chris Grainger:

If you have a chance to give us that and other than that, fellas. Just thank you so much for listening. Thanks again for all the prayers during our recent mission trip. This one will stay with me for a long time, so we'll actually have a video out. Hopefully we'll have a video out by the time this podcast comes out. We'll have a video out, so check out the Hurricane Relief Recap. So if you're not on our mailing list right now, please head over to thelinewithmeatus. Sign up for the weekly reward. Do the Christian Leader Assessment. Do something that gives us your email so you'll get those updates and that way, when that comes out later you'll be able to see it. I promise you you will be encouraged, You'll be blessed the way definitely the way we were. So thanks again, so much for listening. Appreciate all your support. We'll see you next week prayerfully and just keep on leashing the light within.

Chris Grainger:

I don't know about you, but I used to find Mondays really rough.

Chris Grainger:

I would find myself trying to reset for work, trying to get my bearing on the family calendar, trying to find time for my own spiritual growth and development, and often I found myself overwhelmed or just flatly ignoring aspects of my life that I know are meaningful to me.

Chris Grainger:

What I learned was that if I had immediate access to important and impactful spiritual topics and reflections to start my week well, after the allure of a Sunday sermon has passed, I would set my whole week up to be more meaningful and for the opportunity to make a true impact, if you think that getting such a boost would help your week to get started on the right foot. We would love for you to sign up for the weekly roar, which is our newsletter that is produced by the Lion Within Us. Each week will deliver a powerful reflection and practical steps to help you apply Scripture with clarity and purpose, all being rooted in light and truth. So in just a few minutes, we hope to arm you with insights for living out biblical leadership with confidence and strength, and maybe even have a little extra bounce in your step. If that sounds useful, head over to thelionwithinus slash ROAR to sign up today. Head over to thelionwithinus slash ROAR to sign up today.
